The mounting hole pattern on AKR keypads is 2.75 inches center-to-center, which aftermarket units sometimes get wrong by a sixteenth of an inch. Signs Your Linear Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. A homeowner can check whether the keypad has power at the transformer (look for 16-24 VAC at the wire nuts), verify the gate operator responds to other inputs like a remote, and confirm the keypad housing isn’t visibly flooded. What we don’t recommend: opening the sealed electronics housing, attempting to solder surface-mount relays, or probing the intercom’s audio board without isolation. These are low-voltage systems, but a miswired keypad can backfeed voltage into the gate operator and damage a $600 control board.
