Meet the Richmond Team Behind Vance Gate Repair Richmond

We’re the crew that shows up when your gate won’t close at 9 PM or your apartment complex needs a motor swap before Monday. Every person on this page has a real photo on file, a background check on record, and a specific reason they’re on your job. What ties us together isn’t a handbook - it’s the habit of writing down what we found and fixing it until it’s right.

Our People

Adrian Vance, Owner

I started this company in 2014 after ten years wiring commercial access-control systems for warehouses and distribution centers in the East Bay. That work taught me two things that still govern every job: document everything, and never leave a site guessing what was done. I carry a California contractor’s license, and I still ride along on complex installs because I like seeing how a particular hillside in Richmond shifts a gate post six months after we set it. Off the clock, I restore vintage motorcycles and apply the same wiring-diagram discipline to electrical gremlins that should’ve stayed in the 1970s.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus joined us in 2017 after running his own handyman operation in Vallejo and deciding he preferred gates to everything else. He’s certified on LiftMaster, FAAC, and BFT operator systems, and he’s the person we send when a sliding gate has been “fixed” three times by someone else and still won’t track straight. In 2019 he diagnosed a twisted drive rail on a Richmond Hills estate gate that had been misaligned since the original install - the homeowner had been replacing motors annually for four years. Marcus keeps a collection of failed circuit boards in his garage, labeled with what killed them. He’ll talk you through it if you ask.

Diana K., Senior Installer

Diana came over from commercial fencing in 2019 and brought with her a rigging background from marine work in the Port of Oakland. She handles our new gate installations and the welding repairs other companies decline, including aluminum gate fabrication when a matching section needs to be built from scratch. She’s particularly good with the salt-air corrosion we see on Richmond waterfront properties, where standard steel posts last about half as long as inland. Diana has a running bet with Marcus about whether she can install a swing-gate operator solo before he can diagnose the same gate’s electrical fault. The score changes weekly.

Elena R., Service Coordinator

Elena answers the phones, schedules the calls, and knows every technician’s location without checking a screen. She’s been with us since 2020 and has heard every gate problem description imaginable, from “it makes a sad noise” to precise voltage readings from customers who’ve already opened the control box. She pre-qualifies parts before dispatch so Marcus or Diana isn’t making a second trip for a FAAC 740 operator arm that no one stocks locally. Elena grew up in Richmond’s Iron Triangle neighborhood and still lives ten minutes from the shop, which means she’s the reason we can honestly say a live person picks up at any hour.

Javier M., Apprentice Technician

Javier started in 2023 after completing a mechatronics program at Contra Costa College and deciding he wanted to work on things that actually exist in the world, not just in textbooks. He’s currently shadowing Marcus on operator diagnostics and has already passed his LiftMaster and Linear entry-level certifications. His specialty so far is gate intercom and keypad integration, the kind of low-voltage work that requires patience and a methodical approach. Javier lives in El Sobrante and commutes on a motorcycle that he maintains himself, poorly by his own admission, which gives him genuine sympathy for anyone whose gate won’t open when they’re already running late.

One Standard, Every Job

One Standard, Every Job

The Haven Standard isn’t a slogan we put on the vans. It’s four clauses that determine whether a job leaves this shop:

  • Clause 1 (Have it in writing): Every customer gets a written, itemized price before any work begins. No exceptions, no “we’ll figure it out when we get there.”
  • Clause 4 (Evidence on every job): Every visit produces a photographed record - what was found, what was adjusted, what was replaced - left with the homeowner and filed in our system.
  • The 365-Day Done Right Promise: If anything we repaired or installed isn’t right, we make it right. No re-diagnostic fee, no argument about whether it was “the same issue.”

These clauses travel with us whether we’re working on a single-family swing gate in Point Richmond or a multi-tenant sliding system near the Chevron refinery. Adrian developed this standard from commercial jobs where a gate failure could shut down a loading dock, and we’ve found residential customers appreciate the same rigor. Every person on this page has the authority to stop a job if the standard isn’t being met, and the obligation to explain why if a customer asks.

When you call (510) 944-0953, you’ll reach Elena or whoever’s covering the desk. You’ll get a technician’s name and photo before they arrive. And you’ll get a written record of everything that happened, because that’s the only way we know a job is finished.
